Americas:Statoil wants more acreage in NCS Access to new natural resource reserves in the Norwegian and Barents seas are vital for long-term development success, executives at Statoil declared. Norwegian energy company Statoil said it planned to expand its portfolio in the Norwegian continental shelf next year. Tom Dreyer, the company's vice president for exploration of the region, said his company was looking for new production areas in the area during a new licensing round. "Access to new attractive exploration areas is essential for us to be able to confirm the existence of new resources, which in turn could form the basis for stand-alone developments and create positive spinoffs," he said in a statement. Statoil said there were 51 blocks up for grabs in the Barents Sea and 43 in the Norwegian Sea. The company is examining a deep-water development in the Norwegian Sea and moving ahead with plans to drill for new reserves in the Barents Sea. "The Norwegian continental shelf is important to Statoil," said Dreyer in his statement. |
